Celebrating Halloween At Home

Ghosts and Goblins and Ghouls - oh my! Happy Halloween my friends! I don’t know about you, but as soon as the clock struck midnight on October 1st, ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘Practical Magic’ were on full rotation in my TV lineup. I love everything about Halloween, especially the creative decorations I see on my walks around Los Angeles. It’s a fun and magical holiday, and I think those are two things we all need in our lives these days.

For those of you with kids, Halloween may seem a bit daunting this year. I know that creating a fun, socially distanced evening can seem challenging, but I have come up with a few ideas on how to have a safe and memorable Halloween! Even if Halloween isn’t canceled where you are, you can still create the magic of Halloween at home with some of these suggestions.

Halloween Cookie and Cake Decorating Kits

Halloween (for most of us big-kids) has moved away from going door-to-door collecting candy, but that doesn’t mean that our little ones don’t want the same! With a cookie or cake decorating kit, you and your kids can still have the fun of candy, but don’t have to be in big crowds to do so! Here are some of my favorite cookie companies, most of which can be delivered to your home: Celebrations in the Kitchen and Cakes by Claritza. I also LOVE Big Fat Cookie and Stuffed Cookies for myself, but also for gift giving. If you opt to not buy cookies, you can always make some at home! I recommend using purple or orange food coloring to give your cookies a spooky color! There are so many options for fun sweets on Halloween!

Halloween Games at Home

Creating the aura of Halloween at home can be hard, but exploring some different Halloween games could help liven up the spirits!

This fun DIY Tin Can Bowling game is sure to be a hit in every household (though I do recommend playing outside). Not only could you and your kids decorate the tins, but you could also open the tins up and put fun candy or toys inside for an after-bowling treat.

For something a little more complex, this Pumpkin Twister game is one that the whole family will love! Decorating the pumpkin cut-outs beforehand would also be a great way to get creative on Halloween!

Host A Virtual Halloween Movie Night

Having a good old-fashioned movie night is never a bad idea! With some spooky snacks and drinks, a movie night would be a great way to celebrate Halloween safely. You could have a group call with friends or family, and all watch a movie together virtually!

The most important part of a movie-night is, well, the movies! Here is a list of family-friendly Halloween movies that are sure to get you in the spirit.

An equally significant part of a Halloween movie night is the food, drink, and ambiance. For some snacks, these Chocolate Covered Strawberry Ghosts are cute and delicious—you could even swap out the chocolate for Greek yogurt, too! If you are looking for something healthier, check out these healthy Halloween recipes… the Frankenstein Halloween Smoothie looks especially spooktacular!

For drinks, check out this Marshmallow Ghost Hot Chocolate,. It’s an easy classic with a spooky spin that is sure to be the hit of the night! For those of us in warmer climates, these Halloween Spider Ice Cubes can add an element of Halloween to any drink!

There is no reason that we should not celebrate Halloween this year! With fun crafts, games, and food, you can make Halloween just as fun at home! If you have any more suggestions for an at-home Halloween party, please let me know in the comments, I would love to hear your ideas!
