About Me

Hi y’all! I am Barbara Eskowitz and I’m so happy that you have found your way to my little happy place on the internet. Lemonade To Lace is a passion project that was born well over a decade ago when my husband and I made a big move from Houston, TX to Los Angeles, CA.

It occurred to me almost immediately after touching down in the City of Angeles in 2005 that my life would be quite different here. It was an “a-ha” moment of sorts. A mid-life crisis? No, not really. The move forced me out of my comfort zone and I had to learn how to navigate a whole new city, not only in regards to direction, but also becoming familiar with a new community and a west coast lifestyle. I’m a southern gal, and this move was a big change.

The LA vibe was much different than what I knew in Houston. It became clear to me that it all starts here; the latest and greatest trends in technology and the entertainment industry appear in LA long before hitting Houston. It was all around me – on the news and in the news. Los Angeles is full of tastemakers, hipsters, and influencers. It is where innovation collides with fashion, food, decor and lifestyle. LA is a melting pot of ideas, and if those ideas are a hit, then they usually go mainstream-quickly. Sprinkles Cupcakes, American Apparel, TOMS, Drybar, and Snapchat; they all started off in LA. I quickly realized that in this town, one has to be “in the know” and I had a real desire to be able to “walk the walk” and “talk the talk” with all of those around me.

A commonly asked question I received once I settled down in LA was, “How did you do it?” (referring to my move from Houston to LA). This was always followed by the question, “How did you meet people?” My answer was always the same: I forced myself to leap out of my comfort zone. I accomplished this by setting a daily goal to hold myself accountable to. My mission was to step outside everyday and do one of the following three things: meet a new person, explore a new place, or try a new thing. No matter what was going on in my life I did one of those three things every single day…and I had a blast!

I really felt that I had achieved victory when friends of mine who had lived in LA for years started calling me (who would’ve thought) to ask what restaurants to go to, or what new boutiques had popped up. Then strangely enough, a good friend of mine encouraged me to start a blog called ‘You Need To Know This’ because she told me that she could always count on me for great suggestions, referrals and tips.

From this friend’s suggestion my blog was born! However, I opted for a name that I felt was reminiscent of where I come from, and where I am now in my life. “Lemonade to Lace”

‘Lemonade’ reminds me of the simple pleasures I enjoyed in Texas.

‘Lace’ is a fabric that is both complex and alluring; which is how I feel about Los Angeles.

I hope you enjoy reading Lemonade to Lace! I consider my blog a crossroads where southern charm meets California cool! I look forward to you accompanying me on this journey!
