Saving After The Holiday Season

Hi y’all! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends during the the last few weeks - I know I did! Now that the holidays are in our rear view mirrors, I am very much looking forward to taking advantage of the post-holiday sales! Do you have a recently acquired gift card burning a hole in your wallet? If so, now is the time to break it out!

The discounts in January are huge! Granted, after the holiday season styles and sizes can be slightly “picked through” but finding something you love amongst the chaos is such a rewarding challenge! I tend to be very strategic about taking advantage of the sales in January. My shopping list falls into two categories: Unique items and Practical items for next year.

Unique Items

Often times when I’m making a significant investment in fashion, I tend to purchase staple pieces for my wardrobe that are timeless and will stand the test of time. However, when designers release their Fall collections there are always a few “funky” pieces that I fall madly in love with. I covet these pieces all season long, but I can’t justify buying them at full retail price knowing I might only wear it for a season or two. So I wait patiently and I pounce as soon as January rolls around!

For someone who grew up in Houston and currently lives in Southern California, I have an ironic love of coats. When it gets “cold” here in Los Angeles I can’t wait to bust open my coat closet and take some of these coats for a spin. I LOVE buying coats during the January sales season. I know that I’ll get to wear them for a little while this year and then bring them out at the first whiff of a pumpkin spice latte in the Fall. I call this buy and hold! After all, there’s nothing wrong with tucking a special piece away and having a little surprise waiting for you in your coat closet for next winter!

Below you’ll find some really cute coats all at a great price. There are a few basics, but most of these coats are ‘stylish with a twist’ and pieces that I would buy and save in my closet for next year!

Practical Items

Even though you probably JUST put away all of your holiday decorations it might be worth thinking about NEXT years festivities. Stores like Sur La Table are having a 60% off sale on all of their seasonal table settings and decor. Paper Source and Papyrus are selling their boxed holiday cards and ornaments for 50%-70% off as well. Yankee Candle is selling their Large Jar Holiday Candle Scents for $10!

  • Holiday decorations

  • Holiday table settings

  • Wrapping paper, gift bags and ribbon

  • Holiday cards

  • Holiday decor and candles

The majority of these items are things that you can tuck away until next winter. Take advantage of the drastically discounted rates on things you know you’re going to buy next November and December. Not only will you be saving a ton of money, but it will be one less thing you’ll have to do during that busy time of year.

I look forward to sharing more tips and tricks with you all throughout the rest of 2020! It’s going to be a good year! Happy New Year!
